Kites overhead. River below. Autumn light across the fields. A portrait session at Dakeyne Farm in October is something a little different — unhurried, natural, and quietly beautiful.
Sessions take place on the farm grounds — among the open fields, along the river trails, on the hill with kites drifting above, and in whatever corner of the October landscape feels right for you and your people.
Many visitors know me from the sunflower maze — but photography has been part of my life much longer.
I grew up in my family’s photography business, Barndoor Studio, where my mother spent decades creating family portraits, graduation photographs, wedding images, and treasured keepsakes for families throughout the community.
Long before Dakeyne Farm became known for sunflowers and kites, cameras, darkrooms, and photo albums were part of everyday life.
This fall, I’m offering a limited number of portrait sessions at the farm. The October landscape — autumn grasses, open skies, the river in the distance, kites overhead — makes for something quietly extraordinary.
Only a small number of sessions are available each October weekend. If you’re hoping for a particular date, reaching out early is the best way to secure it.

Kite flying is open to everyone on October weekends — $7 per person, children under 5 free. Many families combine a portrait session with an afternoon of kite flying on the hill. It makes for a very good Saturday.
