When the sunflower season ends, the kites come out. Spend an afternoon under open skies, beside the river, surrounded by autumn colour — and the simple, uncomplicated joy of a kite pulling against the wind.
Years ago, our very first sunflower field was lost to a windstorm — just days before opening.
One of our children suggested we fly kites instead.
What began as a way to make the best of a difficult season became one of our favourite farm traditions.
This October, we invite you to spend an afternoon on the hill — open skies, river views, autumn colours, and kites drifting above the fields. Bring your own kite, borrow one of ours, or simply find a comfortable spot to sit and watch.
Come for an hour or stay the whole afternoon. There are no schedules to follow and nowhere you need to be. Just open sky, autumn light, and the river quietly doing what it’s always done.
October at the farm is quieter than sunflower season.
The flowers may be gone —
but the river is still flowing, the eagles are still soaring,
and the sky often feels even bigger.
