Tuesday Field Jam

August 11 @ 10:00 am - September 29 @ 7:00 pm

Dakeyne Farm  ·  Mount Denson, Nova Scotia

The Tuesday
Field Jam

Every Tuesday  ·  All day, come and go as you please  ·  Throughout sunflower season

🎶

Every Tuesday throughout sunflower season, we’re opening up the field for musicians, singers, and anyone who just loves making music — surrounded by sunflowers, wildflowers, and the beauty of the farm. Come for an hour. Stay all day. There’s no wrong way to do it.

No stage. No setlist. No sound check. Just people who love music gathering in a sunflower field on a Tuesday and seeing what happens. Show up in the morning with your coffee. Wander back in the afternoon. Stay for the evening light. It’s that kind of day.

West Hants has always been a community of jam sessions.

Neighbours have been gathering at community halls across the area for decades — picking guitars, fiddles, and banjos together, passing the tradition from one generation to the next with nothing more than a free-will donation and a good chair.

Tuesdays were the old community gathering day at the Mount Denson Search and Rescue building just up the road. That tradition has since ended — but the spirit of it hasn’t.

We chose Tuesdays to honour that. And we thought — if so many of our neighbours are already gathering this way all week long, wouldn’t it be something to have one great big one, right here in the field, and share it with the little ones who’ve never seen it yet?

Our hill is shaped like a natural bowl.
Music doesn’t just carry here — it travels upward, through the blooms, into the open sky.
We’ve heard fiddles, steel drums, old country songs, and entire bands playing from the back of a haywagon. The field holds it all.

Bring your instrument, your voice, a chair, and your friends. Come join a relaxed community jam where the only expectation is showing up. Whether you’ve been playing for years or you’re just someone who loves to sing along — there’s a place for you here. This is for the seasoned pickers, and it’s for the kids watching from the blanket who might just pick up a guitar themselves one day.

🎸 Musicians who come to jam play free all day.
🌻 Visitors welcome with regular farm admission.
No stage. No pressure. No expectations.
Just music, nature, and good people.

Mostly acoustic music fits the space beautifully — though small battery-powered amps are welcome too. All kinds of music, all kinds of players. Young or old, experienced or learning, every Tuesday is its own.

The wider community — music all week long

West Hants has been quietly hosting some of the best community jams in Nova Scotia for years. Come to ours on Tuesday — and if the music takes hold, there’s something happening almost every night of the week.

🎸 Jake Smith Music School — Wee Jams & Adult Band Night
128 Gerrish Street, Windsor  ·  Friday nights
Jake runs both a Wee Jam for little musicians just finding their feet, and an Adult Band Night open jam for local players to connect and play together. If the Tuesday Field Jam lights a spark in your kids — or in you — Jake’s the next stop. One of the best things happening for music in this community.

🎵 Falmouth Community Hall — “The Friday Night Jam”
147 Falmouth Back Road  ·  Fridays, 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Known simply as “The Friday Night Jam” to local pickers. Free-will offering at the door — all proceeds go directly to hall upkeep. One of the best evenings you can have in this part of the province.

🎵 Newport Corner Community Hall
Newport Corner  ·  Thursdays, 7:00 pm onward
Very informal, community-driven acoustic jam. Free-will offering. The kind of evening where you’re not sure how it’ll go and it’s always better than expected.

🥘 Three Mile Plains Community Hall
Just east of Windsor/Falmouth  ·  Wednesdays, 7:00 pm
Free-will donation and a 50/50 draw at the door, plus a light community lunch served halfway through the evening. Music and a meal — the full community hall experience.

These jams have been running for years, quietly and consistently. Come to ours on Tuesday and stay for the rest of the week.
