Birthday Cake
A chocolate cake recipe, entitled "Birthday Cake", adapted from 'Choice Recipes Compliments of Walter Baker & Co., Ltd.' booklet published in 1916.

Ingredients
  1. 1/3 cup Butter
  2. 1 cup Sugar
  3. Yolks 2 Eggs
  4. 1 cup Buttermilk
  5. 2 cups Flour
  6. 1/3 cup Baker's Breakfast Cocoa*
  7. 1 teaspoon Soda**
  8. 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla
Instructions
  1. Cream the butter, and add sugar gradually, while beating constantly.
  2. Drop yolks of eggs into mixture and beat thoroughly;
  3. then add buttermilk, flour mixed with cocoa and soda, and vanilla.
  4. Turn into three buttered and floured layer cake pans
  5. Bake in a moderate oven*** twenty minutes.
  6. Put Marshmallow Frosting between layers and on top of cake.
Notes
  1. Since this recipe was written in 1916, if not earlier.. I had to adapt it a little..
  2. *Baker's Breakfast Cocoa I could not find... I'm guessing over time they dropped the 'Breakfast'
  3. **Soda is Baking Soda.. A hundred years ago, they only had one kind of Soda.
  4. *** Moderate Oven = 350F (Time may need adjusted)

Ingredients
  1. 2 cups of Sugar
  2. 7 Tablespoons of Water
  3. 10 Marshmallows cut into small pieces
  4. 2 Egg Whites
Instructions
  1. Put sugar and water, into sauce pan and stir to prevent sugar from adhering to saucepan.
  2. Heat to boiling point, and let boil rapidly, without stirring, until syrup will thread when dropped from tip of the spoon.
  3. Remove from range and add marshmallows cut into small pieces.
  4. Beat whites of eggs until stiff, but not dry, and add hot syrup gradually, while beating consistently; then continue the beating until mixture is of right consistency to spread.

      Yes it is your photo! I love it!! Thank you! Its the only one I have, as im always behind the lens 😉 I was hoping to credit u on it, but it got cut off when I uploaded it.
      The cake was amazing… turned out perfectly.. and was super yummy. I am not the best cake baker… they always seem to either fall, or are never thoroughly cooked.. but this recipe turned out like a gem!
