Two days and counting….

…until our Tenth Annual Sunflower Maze!! Ten years! Can you believe it? We hardly can.

So while I wait for the corn to boil for supper, in between painting the new shade tent, and putting together our little shop in the shed, I thought maybe I would post a little update about the sunflowers.

(It’s too hot to paint right now anyways! That sun is Hot!)

First. Business: Why no more Events posted on Facebook? Scammers. We’ve had too many scammers, including one just this morning copy our event pages (today it was one from 2017) to try and sell tickets to our maze. We do not sell tickets. Not a one. If someone is trying to sell you a ticket to our event, it’s not us. Do not buy it.

Until Facebook solves this issue, as I just do not have time during our season to deal with it, I will no longer be posting events on Facebook. Yes, the Maze is still a go. So are the Butterflies. 🌻🦋 We Open on the 6th of August this year with our first small, but colourful section.

This year… more butterflies, more kites, more old-fashioned games, more memories, and definitely more sunflowers. We have extended the maze in the back, for a longer season, going from four sections to now six sections, with the hopes to extend our season right into those beautiful fall colours.

We also have a few events happening, with more possibly to be added (I’m open to suggestions too):

August 13th (all day) – Butterfly Release

August 14th (morning) – The Hantsport Baptist Church Service

August 20th (all day) – Butterfly Release

August 27th (all day) – Butterfly Release

August 28th (morning) – Hantsport Baptist Church Service

September 7th – First Day of Homeschool (Home-school activities & Discounted rate for Homeschooling Families)

September 10th – The Mom Market Collective will be here from 11am-3pm

September 23rd-26th – “I supported the Hants County Exhibition” discount days (a discount on our price if you have a stamp or bracelet from the ex)

September 28th – British Home Child day

That’s all we have so far… I am, like i said above, open to any suggestions. Have an acoustic band, and want to play in the field? Have a religious service with your faith? Frisbee golf tournament? Guided nature walk? Paint in a field of Sunflowers day? We are here to support our community in any way we can 🙂

The sunflowers are coming along, the first section not as pretty as the rest will be, but still holding its beauty in its own little way. We planted our first section a little earlier than we usually do, and they did not appreciate it. They were slow to grow, leaving the weeds more room to grow despite our intercrop’s battle. (Free Wild Mustard for our Forager friends)

If you are visiting us this weekend, dreaming of that field of yellow.. wait. Wait until a little later in our season when more sections are in bloom. As our season progresses more and more sunflowers will bloom. A little more rain would be nice, but lucky for us they are Sunflowers and love that sun.

Well, the corn is finished, the monsters all fed, so I guess it’s time to get back at’er, and finish my painting. Time is a ticking, and the flowers will wait for no human.

Oh.. I almost forgot… The whole reason why I’ve been quite online lately… I took some time to focus on another project. A book. Ten years is a long time to collect little moments… and way before I grew sunflowers, I used to love to collect little moments, writing them in my journal, keeping them until the urge came along to write something bigger. Back then it was plays for our local youtheatre group. This time… so many it filled a book.

Memories made in a field of Sunflowers is a collection of stories from my time sitting in the field of sunflowers hosting guests, a memoir and a big thank you to our guests who have supported us throughout the years. It’s currently Free on Kindle Unlimited, available on Amazon for E-readers, and we will have less expensive copies of both the hardcover and softcover available in the shed at the sunflower maze.
